Schools in Adeje underwent maintenance work over the summer
According to the Adeje education councillor, Andrés Pérez Ramos the cost of the reforms will be in the region of €60,000 and is part of an annual revision of public education facilities. The councillor says, “the majority of the work has been in maintenance of existing buildings, but this year we have also taken the opportunity to improve and expand the school library in Las Torres and we have installed an environmental classroom in the green zone in the school in Armeñime following a request from the school.”
In the Las Torres college work centred on the library which now boasts a study and reading room, another dedicated to videos and a consultancy zone. The work was carried out in two phases, with an investment of over €20,000, co-funded by the Adeje council and the regional department of education. In Armeñime the work on an environmental classroom was suggested by the directorate of the school, and following an evaluation study by the council and the regional department, given the go-ahead. Pérez Ramos mentioned that the new ‘classroom’ will work alongside the school plot “which allows students to have a better understanding of biodiversity. For that reason we looked positively at the request and included it in the improvement plans. From September students will be able to enjoy an educative experience of the environment first hand, increasing awareness and the need for care of our surroundings”, he added.
The works in the Fañabe school included improvements and the repair of cracks and repainting as well as expanding the school canteen to allow more students enjoy the facilities. Other schools in the borough have seen painting work and damp-proofing of interior walls, improved drain installations, paving, access area upgrades, wheelchair ramps installed, installation of water fountains, patio improvements, etc. According to the councillor all work will be finished before term starts.
