This week the Tenerife Sur Lions Club handed over a cheque for over six hundred Euros to the San Juan Centre for special needs people in Adeje. The monies were raised during the Hindu Festival of Colours on March 15th earlier this year, and will be used to improve the quality of life of those users of the centre.
Present at the handing over of the cheque were representatives of the Lions, of the San Juan Association and of the Tenerife Hindu Association as well as a representative of those who use the installation. According to Prakash Udhwani, the Hindu community believes very firmly in solidarity with all their neighbours, “we are always looking to ways to help others in greater need, and we have a duty to society and it’s an honour for us to be able to contribute in this way”.
Ana Oneida Borges Medina from the San Juan Association said they were always delighted to be the recipient of aid from the Hindu and other associations. “For us this kind of aid is fundamental”, she said, “as this is a non-profit making association whose aim is the education, assistance and social integration of special needs individuals, and we have been able to carry out this work for the last 21 years thanks to the help we receive”.
