This Friday at 8.30pm in the Las Torres Sports Centre boxing fans are in for a treat. Local hero Sandro ‘Dinamita’ Domínguez takes on León’s Daniel Bueno in a fight titled ‘Sólo para valientes’, or Only for the brave.
This will be a professional bout, and Daniel Bueno is currently ranked 7th in the Spanish National Super Featherweight list.
According to the Adeje sports councillor, Adolfo Alonso Ferrera, “this is an important bout because we are opening the doors to a sport that is currently booming in the borough. In fact at the moment we have 22 young people signed up in the youth division, 15 of them are girls and 22 adults with more than 20 people on a waiting list”. He added, “to be able to count upon someone like Sandro as a trainer in our boxing school is an added bonus, because he has opened the door for us to an exciting world and has shown us that this is a noble sport …”
Also present at the press conference to announce details of the event were Juan Tomas Rodríguez Tejera, president of the Tenerife Boxing Federation, Manuel Povedano, president of the Povedano Boxing Club and event promoter, José Díaz Bencomo, president of the Canarian Boxing Federation, Yadiana Labrada, Povedano Boxing Club secretary and Sandr0 Domínguez’s manager. All voiced their good wishes to Sandro on the eve of the bout, who in return said he “would do his best in this fight against an important rival.” He added that he had trained really hard for this fight and was working for a short at the Spanish title in 2014.
Regarding his experience as a trainer in Adeje, he says he finds it extremely fulfilling to see the girls and boys he is training improving all the time. “The world of boxing is a family, I grew up with it and I am delighted to see that we are forming a boxing family here in my town”.
The weigh-in takes place later today at 7pm in the Centro Comercial El Duque, in front of the “El Mosquito” lottery outlet, who are sponsoring the event.
As well as the professional fight, eight other male and female amateur bouts are scheduled for Friday night with boxers from Tenerife, el Hierro and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria taken part.
