“Sacred, Bitter, Velvet. Show”

Adrián Fresneda’s Exhibition in Adeje

The Adeje Cultural Centre is currently hosting an exhibition of art by Adrián Fresneda. The show, “Sacred, Bitter, Velvet. Show” runs until September 25th.

From La Mancha, Adrián Fresneda has been living and working in Tenerife for the last two years. His work is full of colour, joy, with splashes of colour, almost baroque in style but at the same time is analytical, full of irony, with spurts of irreverence, qualities which Fresneda demonstrates in the themes running through the show – art, politics, Spanish society and culture, religion and homosexuality.

The exhibition features paintings, recordings and collages, reflecting his inspirations and inviting spectators to enter his world and almost become part of it. He says, “the homosexual world is very present in the show, the underworld, what is outside the boundaries of ‘normal’”.

The exhibition, under the title ‘nacidos muy pequeños, vidas muy grandes’ (small at birth, large lives) is a series of 14 photographs of children between 2 and 5 years of age, alongside of picture of them when they were born, prematurely. There is also information about the association (APREMATE).

According to the organisers the exhibition serves to make the public more away of premature birth and babies, and of the existence of the association and the work they do to help other parents who find themselves in what can be a very challenging situation.
