This year over 1,700 Adeje residents took part in some form of organised sports
In recent days the Adeje department of sports has been involved in a number of team events marking the end of the sporting season. Various individual athletes have also been invited and congratulated on a successful sporting year. Overall during the year over 1,700 Adeje residents have taken part in some organised sporting activity in one of more of 17 modules, and many of them took part in the closing ceremony held in the municipal sports ground last week.
The Adeje sports councillor Adolfo Alonso Ferrera underlined the importance the local council place on sporting activity. “Sport is important and something we all should enjoy but we also have to make sure that studies are just as important in our children’s lives, so that they make have the best chance possible in the future. Success in sport depends on many factors and we are not here to see our kids become superstars, though that can happen, but it’s not the main objective. I would like to congratulate everyone for their efforts and dedication”.
During the closing ceremony the different participating groups gave small demonstrations of what they had learnt during the year. The councillor told all those assembled “this is a special afternoon as we can see the results of weeks and months of work. I am so proud of everyone, as most importantly we can see the enjoyment they have in their chosen sport. Furthermore, Adeje is a borough known for its fair play, ‘outside and inside’, and I congratulate you for that too”.
During the week the council also named and congratulated the many Adeje athletes who have had individual and team success during the season.
