Open air classical music concert in Adeje

Lyrical evening with the TSO and Davinia Rodríguez in Golf Costa Adeje

This July 13th the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra will play their first open air concert in South Tenerife, in Golf Costa Adeje. Organised by the Adeje council with the support of the regional department of Tourism, the orchestra will be conducted by Jader Bignamini, with Canarian soprano Davinia Rodríguez .

The concert, beginning at 9pm, reflects the Adeje council’s push to make sure that quality entertainment events are not just on offer for tourists through the ‘Happy Streets’ programme but also for residents, who will have a chance to see and hear the TSO live in the south.

The TSO is considered one of the best in Spain and also has played extensively abroad in Europe, the United States and Asia over the years. Of course it is also a cultural reference here in the islands.

Gran Canarian soprano Davinia Rodríguez has sung with some of the top opera singers in the world, including Jesús López Cobos, Plácido Domingo, James Conlon, Jeffrey Tate, Danoto Renzetti and many more. She has sung in all the great theatres in Spain, in Italy, China, and here in the Canary Islands.

Condustor Jader Bignamini is the resident conductor with the La Verdi Symphony Orchestra in Milan but has also wielded his baton with Symphony Orchestras in San Diego, Osaka, Detroit, Milwakee and this year has been busy touring South America.

The programme for the July 13th concert will feature works from Rossini, Verdi, Bizet, among others and the organisers are preparing a special stage setting which will allow the audience enjoy a spectacular sunset to live music in this very special setting.

Also participating in the production of the event are the Canarian government, the Cabildo of Tenerife and the Golf Costa Adeje club. Tickets are €15 and on sale https://www.tomaticket.es/entradas-sinfonica-de-tenerife.

The hope is that this will become a regular summer classic music event and the Adeje council will be looking to the TSO and other European bodies to offer the local public and visitors the kind of quality events that match the destination.

There’s a busy weekend ahead in Adeje, so even if the sun don’t shine, there’s no need to be in the slightest bit bored!

Tonight you can watch a top-notch basketball game between the Fraport Skyliners Frankfort, who play in the German Bundesliga, and CB Canarias, the regional side currently playing in the Spanish ACB league. Match time is 8.30pm, tickets just €3.
If basketball isn’t your cup of tea, the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra are playing a free concert at 8pm in the Convento de San Francisco, sponsored by the Adeje Council and the Cabildo. The orchestra will play pieces by British composers William Boyce and John Ireland and Germany’s Georg Philip Telemann. Places are limited so arrive early if possible. The convent building is just beside the town hall.
Feeling peckish? The Adeje DegustaMe, or TasteMe series of gastronomic events continues this weekend, and if you fancy a bit of show cooking head down to the municipal Farmer’s Market (up the street opposite Makro) on Sunday at 11am.
